ZTE Unveils Specs For Hawkeye, Company's Crowdsourced Phone

ZTE has just announced specifications for the company’s crowdsourced smartphone, the so-called ‘Hawkeye’. This smartphone comes as a result of the company’s Project CSX which was kicked off last year. ZTE announced that the device will be called ‘Hawkeye’ during this year’s CES 2017, which took place earlier this month, and now the company has released its specifications, let’s see what the device has to offer, shall we.

The ZTE Hawkeye will sport a 5.5-inch display and the company is also mentioning the self-adhesive hands-free case in their press release, but are not saying whether such a case will ship with the device or not. We also do not know what resolution to expect here, as the company only mentioned the size of Hawkeye’s display. The ZTE Hawkeye will be fueled by the Snapdragon 625 64-bit octa-core processor, and a 3,000mAh battery will be a part of this package as well. Speaking of which, the device will ship with a Type-C USB port, and you’ll also get Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 fast charging technology here. According to ZTE’s press release, the device will sport a dual camera setup on the back, you can expect to see 12-megapixel and 13-megapixel snappers on the back, and both of them will sport OIS. Now, interestingly enough, ZTE had already released a render of this smartphone, and that phone sports only one camera on the back. The company has also attached a render of the device to their press release, and that phone also sports a single rear-facing camera, so, that’s a bit confusing, to say the least. In any case, we’ve reached out to ZTE and are waiting for the company’s response.

The ZTE Hawkeye will come with two SIM card slots, and we’re looking at a hybrid setup here, which means that you’ll be able to insert an SD card slot instead of the second SIM card. Android Nougat will come pre-installed on the ZTE Hawkeye, though the company did not say whether we can expect Android 7.0 or Android 7.1 Nougat. This smartphone will offer 4G LTE connectivity, of course, and these are the LTE bands it will support: B2/B4/B5/B12(MFBI)/B7/B13/B66. The phone will also ship with a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, and Hi-Fi sound will also be included in the package. This smartphone can be funded on Kickstarter for $199 (limited time offer), just in case you’re interested.

UPDATE: ZTE responded to our question. The ZTE Hawkeye will sport two cameras on the back, and the provided image is only a reference render of the phone, ZTE will make some changes to it before it becomes available for purchase.
