Alcatel Idol 5S Benchmarked: 3GB RAM, Helio P20 & Android 7.0

The Alcatel Idol 5S has now been spotted making an appearance on Geekbench. This is currently an unannounced device from Alcatel and generally speaking, few, if any details have come through on the Alcatel Idol 5S up until now. While this new benchmark listing does provide some details that are worth noting, there is not too many to focus on.

According to the benchmark listing (which is dated Feb 10, 2017), the Alcatel Idol 5S is a smartphone which will come packing 3GB RAM and will make use of a MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core processor (clocking at 1.69 GHz). The only other notable detail provided in the benchmark is that the Alcatel Idol 5S will come running on Android 7.0 (Nougat) out of the box. For those interested in the actual scores, the Alcatel Idol 5S was noted racking up 824 on single-core performance, while the multi-core score came in at 3421.

Although the details provided here are pretty limited, there is prior experience to be drawn on with the Alcatel Idol 5S. After all, this is obviously the follow up smartphone to last year’s Alcatel Idol 4S which was launched alongside the Alcatel Idol 4. Therefore, it might be safe to assume that the Alcatel Idol 5S will adopt some of the traits of the former. For instance, a good possibility is the display size, with the predecessor employing a 5.5-inch display. Other notable features which came with the Alcatel IDOL 4S included 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, a 16-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, a 3,000 mAh battery, and Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow). So it is already clear that while the RAM on the new model will be the same as the Alcatel Idol 4S, there are some changes in the processor and the operating system departments. One final point which will be worth taking note of, is that the Alcatel Idol 4 and 4S were unveiled at last year’s MWC event in Barcelona. Therefore, there is every possibility that the Alcatel Idol 5S will make an appearance (in some capacity) at this year’s event. Especially considering that recent rumors do suggest Alcatel is likely to unveil as many as five new smartphones during MWC 2017. One of which, is expected to be a modular smartphone.
