Android Auto: 2018 Subaru Legacy Announced at Chicago Auto Show

The next show on the automotive calendar is the Chicago Auto Show which kicked off on Thursday, and Subaru was one of the first to announce their new vehicle. This time it was the 2018 Legacy, and it does have both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This is the first model from Subaru to support either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, and it’ll be available this summer.

The Subaru Legacy will support both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay by using the SUBARU STARLINK Multimedia System which is part of every single vehicle that they sell. There is a 8-inch touch screen display in the center portion of the vehicle, which is where you’ll interact with Android Auto. Subaru says in their press release that there is a faster CPU inside the infotainment system which is going to give users a faster experience. They say that it’ll be similar to a smartphone, in speed. Outside of Android Auto, Subaru also includes TomTom navigation, which brings drivers three years of free updates. With some of the higher-end models, you’ll find added features like more USB ports and apps included in the infotainment system like Pandora, Stitcher, iHeartRadio and more.

Under-the-hood, there is a 175-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder BOXER engine in the 2.5i model. This one will be available in standard, Premium and Sport trims. There is also a 3.6R model which has a 256-hp 3.6-liter 6-cylinder BOXER engine. And this model will be available in a Limited trim (worth noting that the Limited trim does offer the choice between the 2.5i or the 3.6R engine). Subaru also mentions that their Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Active Torque Vectoring are standard on all trim levels. This means that the Legacy will be the only mid-sized sedan to offer all-wheel drive (AWD) on all of their trim levels as a standard feature.

Subaru has made the 2018 Legacy the mid-size sedan with the most room, making it a great car to pick up as your next vehicle. Pricing was not made official in their announcement, and the 2017 Legacy saw an MSRP of around $22,000, so it wouldn’t be out of this world to expect the 2018 Legacy to cost around the same amount.
