Asustek (ASUS) have posted their financial results for January 2017, and things are not looking that great for the company. ASUS have reported revenues of NT$31.349 billion ($995 million) for January, which are their poorest results since May 2016. Company’s revenues decreased 20.75 percent since last month, and 11.7 percent compared to January 2016, but that’s not all. ASUS’ combined sales also dropped 22.4 percent on month, and 12 percent on year, as the company has reported income of NT$28.085 billion ($905 million) as far as sales are concerned.
Now, on the other hand, Acer is not doing that well either. The company has reported consolidated revenues of NT$19.962 billion ($643.12 million) for January this year, which is 9.96 percent less than they reported for December last year. Having that in mind, these results are somewhat better than Acer reported for January 2016, as January 2017 revenues represent a 6.84 percent improvement over Acer’s January 2016 revenues. Both ASUS and Acer are blaming Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year) for revenues drop, as there were less working days at their disposal. No matter what the reason behind this is, both companies will have to step up moving forward. ASUS is actually expected to drop some hardware during the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, and they’ve already announced the ZenFone AR smartphone during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) last month, which will become available soon.
The ASUS ZenFone AR is expected to help ASUS make some profit this year, but most consumers are interested in the company’s ZenFone 4 devices which are expected to arrive in the coming months. The company introduced their first three ZenFone 3 smartphones back in May last year, and it is possible that the ZenFone 4 units will land early this year. Some rumors have even suggested that ASUS might introduce their new flagship line of devices at this year’s Mobile World Congress, though we’ll see what happens, mid-2017 still seems like the most probable timeline for ASUS ZenFone 4 launch event. Acer is expected to introduce some new Chromebooks during MWC 2017, but we still don’t know what to expect in terms of smartphones, any upcoming rumors / leaks will probably reveal some info, but Acer is also expected to introduce at least one smartphone at MWC 2017.
