AT&T has a new unlimited data plan coming for any customer as the carrier has just announced the new plan this afternoon, and what’s more is that they will begin offering the new plan to all customers of AT&T starting tomorrow. The arrival of unlimited data seems to be making waves across the industry in the U.S. as Verizon recently announced “Verizon Unlimited,” which is the new plan they’re offering to subscribers. AT&T’s announcement also follows an announcement from T-Mobile stating they would alter their T-Mobile One plan to match part of what Verizon was offering with their plan in regards to HD video streaming. Considering these changes from the number one and number three carriers in the U.S., it was likely only a matter of time before AT&T followed in the same footsteps and ushered unlimited data back into their own service.
While existing subscribers can certainly take advantage of this new offering once it goes live tomorrow, AT&T isn’t locking out new customers as they will let those considering a switch to AT&T to sign up for the plan as well. When it comes to the cost AT&T only mentions a four-line family plan and doesn’t make any references to the pricing for a single line or family plans less than four lines, but for those who fit into the four-line segment, the cost per month will be starting at $180 and will offer unlimited talk, text, and data, with 22GB of data usage at LTE speeds, before falling back to a slower speed after that mark has been hit.
Since AT&T hasn’t offered up details on additional pricing with less than four lines, it’s likely that they will make those details public starting tomorrow once the plan has actually launched. The plan will be available to business customers as AT&T notes that business customers can “take advantage of their corporate discount.” In addition to unlimited talk and text to other U.S. numbers, this new plan also includes unlimited text messages to over 120 different countries around the globe, as well as unlimited talk to numbers in Canada and Mexico when calling them from the U.S. For those considering this plan there is one caveat to pay attention to and that’s the cost. While $180 is the price that’s focused on, this is only the monthly price after a $40 a month credit, which will start after two billing cycles according to AT&T. This makes the cost $220 a month up until the credits take affect.
