The TCL-made BlackBerry KEYone was just announced at Mobile World Congress (MWC), and it turns out that the latest BlackBerry smartphone boasts a certain combination of features that’s completely unique in today’s market – a relatively small screen, a physical keyboard, and a massive 3,505mAh battery. BlackBerry’s representatives confirmed that the KEYone sports the largest battery ever to be featured in a BlackBerry-branded device, so coupled with its 4.5-inch display panel and some other features described below, this smartphone could possibly offer some amazing battery life.
Apart from boasting a large-capacity battery, the BlackBerry KEYone also ships with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology thanks to which the phone can be charged to 50 percent in around 36 minutes, the company claims. In other words, the KEYone will not only feature a massive battery, but also one that can be recharged relatively quickly. Finally, BlackBerry also promises that its Boost technology will allow users to “turbo charge” their KEYone units and make the most of the short time that’s available to them.
Qualcomm Europe’s President Enrico Salvatori revealed that the company closely collaborated with TCL to develop a smartphone that’s capable of impressive performance while still providing users with an incredible battery life, which is what the KEYone is said to be. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 system-on-chip (SoC) powering the BlackBerry KEYone is said to be 35-percent more power efficient than the Snapdragon 617 that preceded it as every one of its components was built with the goal of delivering optimal performance while being energy efficient. The Adreno 506 GPU and Qualcomm Hexagon digital signal processor (DSP) have both already been proven as capable of performing tasks in a power-efficient manner, so BlackBerry’s upcoming Android smartphone is expected to be relatively conservative when it comes to using the 3,505mAh capacity of its battery. All of that will hopefully translate to an impressive battery life, but BlackBerry and TCL have yet to reveal what kind of longevity users can expect. First independent tests of the BlackBerry KEYone’s battery life are expected to be performed by early April once the device hits the market. Until then, it’s reasonable to presume this device won’t have any issues lasting you through the day.
