You Can View The Time On LG's New Watches As They Turn On

You can view the time on LG’s new watches as they turn on which may be a feature of Android Wear 2.0 or it may be a special feature that’s exclusive to the new LG Watch Style and LG Watch Sport. Reportedly, this new time display during the boot up process isn’t showing up on devices which are on the final developer preview for Android Wear 2.0, so that may suggest that the clock on the boot screen is limited to LG’s two new smartwatches, but it’s also possible that it may be specific to Android Wear 2.0 in general, and may only be available through the official version of the software, which has yet to hit any of the devices that have been confirmed to get it.

With the clock now displaying on the screen as the watches boot up, it gives users the ability to take a quick glance at the time before the watch fully powers on and if the time is what they’re looking to see then shaving off a few seconds is not a bad thing. It also gives users something else to look at during those few seconds it takes for the watch to finish powering on, and while it’s only a few seconds, for some that extra few seconds may be key.

As this feature doesn’t seem to be available in the developer preview of Android Wear 2.0, there is no way to know for sure if it will make it to other watches, but it also may suggest that there are more hidden features within the software that have yet to be discovered. While Google has mentioned the big changes, like Android Pay support from the wrist, Google Fit improvements, and Google Assistant compatibility, the clock being shown on the display while the watch boots up is not something Google talked about, so there’s a good possibility that there may be other small changes included with the new software. Google officially announced the launch of Android Wear 2.0 yesterday alongside the official announcements for the LG Watch Style and LG Watch Sport, and while Google has only said that Android Wear 2.0 will be heading to supported devices in the coming weeks, the latest rumor points to a launch beginning on February 15th.
