Energizer Outs Two New Energy Smartphones At MWC 2017

US-based battery manufacturer Energizer has introduced two new smartphones at Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, dubbed the Energizer Energy E520LTE and Energy E550LTE. They are the company’s first handsets to hit the headlines since the release of the Energizer Energy 400 and Energy 500 in June 2015, and not unlike the previous models, they both come wrapped in a rugged body presenting an industrial design.

The Energizer Energy E550LTE is the more powerful smartphone of the two, featuring a 5.5-inch FullHD (1920 x 1080) display covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 3 as well as an extra Asahi tempered glass screen protector. Inside beats the heart of a MediaTek MTK6755 SoC (System-on-Chip) featuring eight CPU cores clocked at up to 2.0 GHz, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. The back panel holds a dual-camera setup comprising a 13-megapixel unit coupled with an 8-megapixel secondary sensor, as well as a fingerprint sensor underneath. The front panel holds an 8-megapixel sensor for selfie enthusiasts, and in overall, the smartphone draws energy from a 4,000mAh battery with MediaTek’s quick charging technology dubbed Pump Express 3.0. Lastly, the Energizer Energy E550LTE has an industrial, rugged design complete with IP67 certifications for dust and water resistance, and boasts a relatively thin profile for its class, measuring 11.1mm.

Moving on to the Energizer Energy E520LTE, the handset is described in the press release as “the little bro” of the Energizer Energy E550LTE. Sure enough, it sports a smaller 5.2-inch 1280 x 720 display and is powered by a MediaTek MTK6735 System-on-Chip featuring four CPU cores, along with 2GB of RAM. In addition, the smartphone houses 16GB of internal storage and makes use of a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera supplied by Sony, as well as a 5-megapixel front-facing sensor. Like its larger counterpart, the Energizer Energy E520LTE features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and is powered by a 4,000mAh battery, but unlike its sibling, it makes use of MediaTek’s Pump Express 2.4 as opposed to version 3.0. The Energizer Energy E520LTE will be available for purchase in May 2017 for the price of €299, whereas the Energizer Energy E550LTE will be priced at around €449 and should hit the shelves sometime in the summer of 2017. According to the official press release, both smartphones will be distributed worldwide by Avenir Telecom – the same company retailing mobile products under a variety of brands including Yezz.
