The February 2017 Android Security Update started rolling out for the Nexus 6P earlier today. The patch is just under 40MB in size and features the build number N4F26O. Apart from fixing a number of vulnerabilities, the latest patch is also expected to address some bugs that appeared after the Huawei-made 2015 phone was updated to Android 7.1.1 Nougat, but that information has yet to be confirmed by either Google or Huawei. The latest Android Security Update for the Nexus 6P is being pushed out as an over-the-air (OTA) patch, meaning you can expect to soon receive an update notification prompting you to install it. Just in case you’re impatient, you can manually check for the update from your device’s Settings app.
Owners of the Nexus 6P participating in the Android Beta Program also recently started receiving the Android 7.1.2 Nougat beta update. Among other things, that update added fingerprint gestures that were exclusive to the Google Pixel and the Pixel XL until recently. Google’s pair of 2016 flagships is also expected to receive the Android Security Update today. In a somewhat surprising turn of events, Sony actually debuted the latest Android Security Update before Google did, as the Xperia XZ, Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, and Xperia X Compact started receiving the patch last Thursday. While owners of the Nexus 6P had to wait a bit longer for the update, they can take some comfort in the fact that their device is currently heavily rumored to receive the Google Assistant in the near future.
The Nexus 6P initially hit the market in 2015, featuring a 5.7-inch display panel which boasts a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels. The device is powered by the Qualcomm-made Snapdragon 810 system-on-chip and 3GB of RAM. It features a 13-megapixel rear camera complemented with a dual-LED, dual tone flash, as well as an 8-megapixel front shooter. The Nexus 6P is powered by a 3,450mAh battery and initially shipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. While it already updated the phone with Nougat, Google is expected to release one more major Android version for the Nexus 6P, the very same one that is rumored to sport Google Assistant integration.
