Gionee A1 Shows Up In Geekbench Ahead Of MWC 2017 Debut

The Gionee A1 is expected to be officially unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, Spain, but as is usually the case with smartphone nearing their debut, the Gionee A1 has also been the subject of various leaks and rumors over the last few weeks. More recently, the Gionee A1 has been spotted in the Geekbench database flaunting some of its hardware specifications, including an octa-core MediaTek processor and 4GB of RAM.

The Gionee A1 makes no effort to conceal its identity in the Geekbench database as the device is identified by model number “GIONEE A1”. As far as specifications are concerned, the Gionee A1 makes use of a MediaTek Helio P10 System-on-Chip (SoC), specifically the one identified as ‘MT6755V/C’. This seems to be the same chipset powering the upcoming HTC One X10, accommodating a high-performance quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor clocked at up to 1.9GHz, as well as four additional ARM Cortex-A53 cores operating at a lower frequency of 1.0GHz per core. Although this bit of detail goes by unmentioned in the Geekbench database, normally the MediaTek MT6755 Helio P10 should make use of a Mali-T860MP2 (2-core) graphics chip. Lastly, the Geekbench entry shows that the Gionee A1 also uses 4GB of RAM, and runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. In overall, the Gionee A1 seems to be able and yield 699 points in the Geekbench Single-Core tests, while topping 2602 points in Multi-Core benchmarks.

According to previous leaks, the Gionee A1 should make use of a fairly generous 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which should be covered by a sheet of 2.5D curved glass. In addition, the Gionee A1 is said to house 64GB of on-board memory which should be expandable via a microSD card slot, and oddly enough, it will apparently accommodate a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera while employing a higher-resolution 16-megapixel sensor on the front panel. Coupled with a selfie-flash, the front-facing camera promises decent performance in a variety of scenarios including low-lit areas. Last but not least, the Gionee A1 is said to draw energy from a generous 4,010mAh battery with fast charge support, and the handset will reportedly make use of a fingerprint recognition sensor embedded within the physical home button. The Gionee A1 is expected for an officially unveiling at Mobile World Congress around February 27. Until then, feel free to take a sneak peek at the smartphone’s alleged exterior design in the leaked photos below, and stay tuned for more news as the story develops.
