Google confirms that the Pixel line is still in production after an email was sent out from TELUS to a customer who placed an order for the device towards the end of November of last year. At the time, the device was on backorder, according to the user who posted a screenshot of the image on Reddit, which displays that the email was sent out yesterday. Both Google and TELUS have stated that while the stock of the device has been depleted, Google is working with their partners to restock the device so that they can fulfill orders for customers.
While the email sent out to the customer does state that it’s from the TELUS team, it also displays that it comes from a third-party retailer of TELUS products and services called Mobileaxs, and was not sent from TELUS corporate. That being said, there’s no current explanation as to why even a third-party retailer would be under the impression that production of the Pixel line would be ceased by Google a mere few months after it started, especially considering it’s widespread popularity with customers.
The Google Pixel has been met with high demand since it launched last Fall and that popularity has caused it to become hard to get a hold of, something which has affected more than just the customers of TELUS as it’s been out of stock many places and in various regions. The good news for customers of TELUS or any other carrier who were hoping to grab the device is that Google still plans to continue producing the phone and selling it. According to Google, the stock for the Pixel line in regards to TELUS has only been affecting the Pixel XL, and while the TELUS website does indeed lack the ability to purchase the Pixel XL as it doesn’t show on their website under phones you can purchase, the Pixel is still in stock in both black and silver in the 32GB and 128GB variations. More than likely the email was sent out in error after the incorrect details of ceasing production on the Pixel line was communicated to someone.
