Huawei looks set to unveil and introduce the Huawei Watch 2 at this year’s MWC event in Barcelona. While the company has not outwardly said the Huawei Watch 2 announcement is happening, Huawei’s own Richard Yu, seems to have confirmed as much on his Weibo account. Specifically, Yu has released a social media post which comes with the ‘Huawei Watch 2’ hashtag, as well as another hashtag for ‘Huawei MWC 2017’. As such, it does stand to reason that the Huawei Watch 2 will likely be unveiled at the event.
Along with the social media post, Yu also provided the teaser image shown below. While this one does not provide much in the way of details on the Huawei Watch 2, it might be providing some indication as to who the watch could be aimed towards. The image shows someone being a little more active, while the social media message also made use of a ‘made for free spirits’ hashtag. Therefore, the assumption being that the Huawei Watch 2 will be made with more active wearers in mind.
However, it is worth pointing out that while the details on the Huawei Watch 2 are vague at best, this is not the first time that it has been suggested that this particular smartwatch will be unveiled at MWC 2017. Towards the end of January a report did come through noting that the Huawei Watch 2 will be unveiled at the event and one of its selling points will be that it comes equipped with cellular connectivity, allowing the user to make and take calls, messages, and more, without needing to be connected to a smartphone to do so. Which is an aspect which very easily could be what the ‘made for free spirits’ sentiment in this latest image is alluding to – as this smartwatch will likely not be bound by anything, including your smartphone. Either way, the Huawei Watch did prove to be a popular choice when it was first announced and especially for those who were looking for a more stylish and watch-like option. So it stands to reason that whether this one is aimed at the sports-minded or not, style will continue to be a focal point with the next version.
