Lenovo has officially thrown the launch promo videos for the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus up on YouTube, highlighting the two phones’ best features and giving those who are curious about them a quick look at just what they’re about. The cheaper Moto G5 is a decent base model, just like last year’s, sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and a 5-inch, 1,920 x 1,080 screen. The somewhat pricier Moto G5 Plus, on the other hand, boasts a more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and a slightly bigger screen, sitting at 5.2 inches with the same 1080p resolution. Both of them have an updated look with a metal body that channels the Moto Z family far more than their predecessors, which have a good bit of Moto X DNA left in them.
This year’s Moto G base model’s promo video shows off the design in great detail, and touts the compelling battery life that no doubt springs from the modest processor, though a decently sized 2,800mAh battery for the device’s screen size is quite generous in any case, and is removable, allowing you to carry a spare. A 13-megapixel camera with fast autofocus is on board, paired up with a 5-megapixel selfie shooter, a spec it shares with the larger phone. The storage on this one is either 16 gigabytes or 32 gigabytes depending on what market you’re in, and the RAM sits at a manageable 2 or 3 gigabytes of RAM. The storage is expandable via a MicroSD card slot, another feature it shares with the G5 Plus. This device won’t be available in some markets, such as the United States.
The Moto G5 Plus had many of the same attributes touted in its video debut, as well as some of the things that set it apart from its smaller sibling. It gets a larger 3,000 mAh battery to power its bigger screen and beefier processor, but the unit is non-removable. Said beefier processor is paired up with either 3 or 4 gigabytes of RAM and 32 or 64 gigabytes of internal storage. Along with better performance, you’ll get a better camera; the Moto G5 Plus boasts an f/1.7 aperture on its 12-megapixel back camera, long with dual-focusing pixels. In layman’s terms, this means that it can fit more pixels into a picture, will focus faster, and will take much clearer shots than the Moto G5. It can also record video in up to 4K resolution, whereas the Moto G5 is limited to 1080p.
