LG’s G6 has a FullVision display with an 18:9 aspect ratio according to LG who just confirmed the details via a press release. While there is still very little official information about LG’s next flagship that is know when it comes to specifics, such as what the cost will be and what most of the internal hardware is, there are some details which are more or less unofficially confirmed, like the phone’s final design as this has leaked a number of times in the past month, showcasing what looks to be an all metal body with no removable back cover, which would also suggest no removable battery.
In addition to LG confirming the G6 will have a screen an aspect ratio of 18:9 they have also stated the screen size will be 5.7-inches, it will have a QHD+ resolution, and the G6 display will feature what LG will debut with LG’s upcoming UX6.0 software, which will be the latest version of their user interface that comes on top of Android. While the size of the screen and the resolution of the display have already been suspected due to LG’s announcement of the new QHD+ display panels, LG up to this point had not actually confirmed the screen size. Another detail which has been rumored about the device in recent weeks is the minimal bezels, and this can be seen in the phone’s design that is showcased in a handful of different leaked images. LG states that the 18:9 aspect ratio will “almost entirely fill the front of the smartphone” which also adds confirmation to the big screen but small footprint of the actual device size, something which could only be achieved by eliminating the bezels as much as they possibly could. This should also make good use of Android Nougat’s multi-window feature.
This sort of design is evoked in the use of the name FullVision as LG wants consumers to be able to view more information on the screen without having to resort to using a device that is actually larger itself, another trait which was teased recently in the past by LG in a video they posted to YouTube, where they asked individuals about their ideal smartphone. For content that uses a 16:9 aspect ratio, the LG G6 will have an upscaling feature that will transition it to an 18:9 format so as to make use of the screen’s size in its entirety.
LG has placed a lot of emphasis on their cameras for their past flagships, and they’re continuing this trend with the G6, which will have a fun new feature called Food Mode that focuses on providing users with increased color contrasts with high color quality and saturation that are deigned to enhance the look of food pics. The camera will also take advantage of the 18:9 aspect ration by letting users shoot in a 1:1 format using the new Square Camera feature, which divides the 18:9 screen in half and places to identical sized squares in the view finder next to each other so users can review these images side by side. Another fun feature coming to the phone will let users create GIF images using anywhere from 2 to 100 pictures, and it will combine those images that are selected into a loop to create the GIF, which will then be able to be shared through other apps. LG is slated to announced the G6 officially on February 26th at Mobile World Congress, where they will officially announce all of the details about the device that are still unknown.
