On Thursday, Lyft announced their “biggest expansion yet” and are bringing their ride-sharing services to another 54 cities. These cities are mostly across the midwest portion of the US, with a few others on the east and west coasts. Some of those cities include Fort Myers, FL; Worcester, MA; Saginaw, MI; Youngstown, NY; and Augusta, ME to name a few. You can see the complete list at the source link below.
Lyft began back in 2012, when even Uber was a small company. It was formed from a simple idea of allowing ride sharing, but at a cheaper rate than taxis, and making it easier to actually get a ride. Considering with Lyft you only need to pop open the app and request a ride, it’s much simpler than attempting to hail a taxi, especially if you are in the suburbs where taxi’s aren’t usually present. Lyft has had a few set-backs, and has faced some stiff competition from Uber, but they are definitely hitting their stride with this huge expansion. GM of course, is playing a huge role in Lyft’s expansion, seeing as they are a major investor in the company and Lyft will be using GM’s electric Chevrolet Bolt later this year as an autonomous vehicle.
If you live or are currently in any of these new cities, you’ll be able to open up the app right now and hail a ride. Given that there are drivers in your area. If you are interested in driving for Lyft, you can do that as well now. It’s a great way to bring in some extra cash, especially since you can get paid immediately, meaning you don’t have to wait a week or two for your money to hit your bank account. For driver’s it’s a great way to earn some extra cash without really having to spend any extra cash. Lyft drivers are always needed, seeing as drivers set their own hours, there’s never enough of them on the road. You can download the Lyft app on both iOS and Android through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, respectively.
