Meizu M5s Is Now Official With 3GB Of RAM, 5.2-Inch Display

Meizu has just announced their first smartphone in 2017, the Meizu M5s. This is the company’s budget offering, a device which had been surfacing for weeks now, and we more or less knew what to expect considering the device was already certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC). Well, it seems like the info provided by TENAA was not entirely accurate, even though most provided specifications were spot on. In any case, let’s see what the Meizu M5s has to offer, shall we.

The Meizu M5s is a rather compact smartphone which is made out of metal, both its power / lock and volume rocker keys are placed on the right-hand side of its metal shell, and a physical home key is placed below the phone’s display. This is actually Meizu’s multi-functional key which serves as a physical home button, capacitive back key and also a fingerprint scanner. The Meizu M5s sports a 5.2-inch 720p (1280 x 720) 2.5D curved glass display, along with 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 16GB / 32GB of expandable internal storage. The device is fueled by MediaTek’s MT6753 64-bit octa-core processor, along with the Mali-T760 GPU for graphics. A 13-megapixel snapper (f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, 5P lens) is placed on the back of the device, and a 5-megapixel camera is located on the front side of this smartphone. A 3,000mAh battery is also a part of this package, and it is not removable, while it offers support for fast charging. Speaking of fast charging, you’ll be able to charge this smartphone from 0% to 56% in just 36 minutes. There are two SIM card slots included here, we’re looking at a hybrid dual SIM setup in this smartphone (2 x nano SIM), which means that you can use one of the SIM card slots in order to expand Meizu M5s’ internal storage via a microSD card.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on the Meizu M5s, and on top of it, you’ll be able to find Meizu’s Flyme OS, though the company’s press release does not specify whether we’re looking at Flyme 5 or Flyme 6 here. 4G LTE with VoLTE is a part of this package as well, just in case you were wondering. The Meizu M5s will be available in Gray, Silver, Rose Gold and Champagne Gold color variants. The more affordable variants of this smartphone with 16GB of storage is priced at 799 Yuan ($116), while the 32GB storage model costs 999 Yuan ($145). The device will become available for purchase in China on February 20th. We still don’t have any info when it comes to the device’s international availability, however, so stay tuned for that.
