A new set of leaks depicting several images of supposed tempered glass protectors for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 has recently surfaced online. Apart from giving more credence to recent leaks and reports suggesting that Samsung’s upcoming Android flagship will feature an almost bezel-less display, the new images also suggest that the Galaxy S8 won’t feature a physical home button beneath its screen like it was previously rumored. This consequently implies that the device will either ship with a fingerprint scanner on its back or have one integrated into the display panel itself. While the technology for accomplishing the latter already exists, no original equipment manufacturer (OEM) has yet released a device equipped with a so-called optical fingerprint sensor.
The latest set of leaks showing alleged tempered glass protectors for the Galaxy S8 can be seen in the gallery below. Samsung’s upcoming flagship is rumored to launch in two variants, the larger one of which will supposedly be called the Galaxy S8 Plus. The device is said to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 and the Samsung-made Exynos 8895 system-on-chip in select territories, in addition to sporting between 4GB and 6GB of RAM. Recent reports suggest that the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will be fueled by a 3,250mAh and a 3,750mAh battery, respectively. While the larger variant of Samsung’s upcoming Android flagship is said to sport a 6.2-inch display, neither phone will be significantly larger than the Galaxy S7 Edge. Instead, the company allegedly improved the screen real estate by reducing the bezels of its devices, meaning the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus are expected to feature an impressive screen-to-body ratio.
On the software side of things, Samsung’s upcoming flagship duo will almost certainly ship with Android Nougat and Samsung’s proprietary launcher, and recent reports suggest that both devices will feature Bixby, an AI assistant developed by Viv Labs, a startup that Samsung acquired in late 2016. More details on both the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will likely emerge soon as the South Korean tech giant is rumored to unveil its upcoming devices in late March before releasing them in mid-April.
