OPPO has huge plans for 2017, as the company plans to increase their production capacity quite considerably. OPPO was the second largest smartphone manufacturer in China last year, at least as far as smartphone sales are concerned. Well, OPPO is planning to improve their production capacity both in China and India it seems. According to industry sources, OPPO plans to expand its production capacity in China, and build up production lines in India this year, with a goal to ramp up shipments in 2017.
This company had managed to sell 99.4 million smartphones last year, which is 132.9% more than they were able to ship out in 2015. OPPO actually managed to grab 7.3% market of the global market according to IDC, which is quite a feat for the company considering that they don’t exactly operate in that many markets outside of Asia and Africa. In any case, OPPO aims to sell 160 million smartphones this year, at least according to IHS Technology, which means that they aim to sell 61% more smartphones than in 2016. Now, a new report surfaced recently and contradicts IHS Technology, this new report claims that OPPO aims to ramp up shipments by 20-21% to 120 million this year, which is a considerable difference to 160 million IHS Technology mentioned in their recent report, while the company did not share any official info just yet.
OPPO had three production plants in China, and the company has increased that number to 5. They’ve also opened up a manufacturing plant in Indonesia, and one such plant will become operational in India soon as well, at least according to industry sources. We all know how competitive Chinese market is at the moment, so OPPO really did a great job considering they managed to appeal to consumers and sell quite a few smartphones in 2016. It remains to be seen if OPPO can keep up this growth rate, and stay ahead of its competitors, companies like Vivo, Xiaomi, Meizu, etc. Huawei is still far ahead of OPPO in China, and globally as well, but that might change in the future, who knows what will 2017 brings, we’ll just have to wait and see what will happen, and the year has just started.
