The LG V30 will be fueled by the Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip (SoC) and 6GB of RAM, according to a recent rumor originating from the Chinese social network Weibo. LG’s upcoming flagship is also rumored to feature an upgraded version of the Quad-DAC technology introduced with the LG V20 and will ship with two dual camera setups at both front and back. Provided the latter information is accurate, the LG V30 could possibly become the first smartphone to feature two dual camera systems. The same source also claims that the South Korean phone maker will launch the LG V30 in the second half of this year, adding that the device will boast some other “mysterious” features.
Seeing how the LG V20 only hit the market last October, it’s reasonable to presume that the source is right when they say the phone will launch in the second half of 2017. Of course, that could just be an educated guess and in no way confirms that the rest of the details about the device outlined above are accurate, but presuming they are, they indicate that the Seoul-based tech giant may be turning its LG V lineup into its only flagship series. The upcoming LG G6 that’s scheduled to be unveiled later this month will most likely sport the Snapdragon 821 SoC, the same chipset that’s powering the HTC U Ultra, Google Pixel, and the Google Pixel XL, meaning the company’s first high-end 2017 smartphone will be fueled by a 2016 SoC. Of course, it’s possible that this discrepancy is only an anomaly seeing how Samsung reportedly caused an industry-wide component shortage as LG’s domestic rival is stockpiling Qualcomm’s latest chips for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus. Nevertheless, if this latest report is accurate, the LG V30 will likely be the most powerful smartphone released by LG this year.
Seeing how the company is reportedly looking to beat the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 to the market with the LG G6, it’s possible that LG will mimic that strategy later this year and try to release the LG V30 before the Galaxy Note 8 hits the market. In that scenario, the LG V30 could launch in late summer instead of fall like its predecessor did.
