Samsung Confirms Unpacked Event for March 29th

It was rumored that Samsung might be teasing the Galaxy S8 at their Mobile World Congress press event, and well they did just that. They announced that they will be “unboxing” the next Galaxy beginning March 29th, which is just over a month from now. Samsung did also announce that their upcoming Galaxy will have audio tuned by AKG. Now this isn’t a huge surprise seeing as the tablets that were announced today also have audio tuned by AKG. Their new liking of AKG in their products is likely due to their purchase of HARMAN, which hasn’t actually gone through yet. But it definitely means that future Samsung devices are going to have some incredible sound.

The Unpacked event is happening at 11am EDT in New York City on March 29th, which is where Samsung typically announces their devices, unless it is at MWC or IFA in Barcelona or Berlin, respectively. It’s been rumored that this was the date for the Galaxy S8 announcement, and now it is official, which is good news for those excited about the upcoming smartphone from Samsung.

When it comes to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, we already know a good number of the specs for both devices. With the Galaxy S8 sporting a 5.8-inch display and the Galaxy S8 Plus with a 6.3-inch display. The devices are going to be sharing a lot of aspects of the newly announced LG G6. It’ll have a taller display with a 18:9 aspect ratio, and it’ll also have rounded corners, which LG stated that this is to minimize the impact when the device is dropped, so this is likely why Samsung is going with the rounded corners as well. Both devices are of course going to be sporting the Snapdragon 835 chipset from Qualcomm, along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Both devices will also be coming to all four of the US carriers and be available in many other markets. It’ll likely launch in early April, for those looking forward to picking it up. Samsung is likely taking this extra time to test out the devices a bit more before debuting it next month.
