Samsung To Debut New Wireless Charger with Galaxy S8

Samsung is one of the few manufacturers that is still putting wireless charging in their smartphones, and it appears that the Galaxy S8 will get wireless charging and a new wireless charger. According to the specs that leaked out earlier the Galaxy S8 will have wireless charging and now thanks to Roland Quandt, there is a new wireless charger on the horizon. Supposedly it is the EP-PG950. This would go along with the model numbers for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus which are the SM-G950 and SM-G955.

Right now, there isn’t a whole lot of details regarding this new Qi Wireless Charging base, but we do know that it does 15W (9V/1.67A) and 10W (5V/2A). It’s unclear what the other specs of this charging base are, it’s also unclear what the design might be here. But it does appear that the design will be mostly the same this time around. As with previous versions of the Galaxy S smartphones, the charging base has mostly stayed the same, with a round charger that can be flat or in a slanted upright position, allowing you to use it as a dock of sorts. Of course this wireless charger will not be included with the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus, it’ll be an extra purchase for those picking up those phones – it should also work with other Qi-enabled devices.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are rumored to be launching next month and be made available by the end of April. So unfortunately these devices won’t be at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this coming week, but we should still see them fairly soon. These two devices have been leaking all over the place lately, so there’s a lot that is known about these devices already, but still plenty that is not known. We do know that they will be using much larger displays, but with the same overall size as the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge from last year, by slimming down the bezels, and using a different aspect ratio as well. Samsung is supposedly jumping on the 18:9 aspect ratio this year as well.
