Verizon hasn’t been able to keep up with demand for the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, and now it appears that they are giving out Daydream View headsets to those that have had their orders delayed, as compensation. At least that is what users on Reddit and XDA are saying right now. These users are getting calls from a company that Verizon hired, offering them a free Daydream View headset. Now the call isn’t coming directly from Verizon, so many may feel that this could be a spam call, but these representatives should already have your account information pulled up and handy (they may just need you to verify that you are who you say you are, though).
It’s also being reported that those that did already purchase a Daydream View are actually getting a $50 bill credit instead of the free handset. Which for some people, that’s a better compensation. Not everyone is reporting that they are getting a choice between the Daydream View and the $50 credit, so it may depend on the representative or another factor. Google has been having trouble keeping the Pixel and Pixel XL in stock since it launched late last year. So far, Google has not announced any compensation for users who have had their order delayed, but they will likely offer up some Google Play credit in the near future, if things don’t get better. Something that the search giant has done before with other hardware that they’ve sold through the Google Store.
The Daydream View headset is the company’s VR headset for their new Daydream platform. This is currently the only VR headset for Daydream and typically costs $79. However, right now Verizon is offering it up for just $49. The headset will allow you to immerse yourself in video as well as playing games in virtual reality. It does come with a pretty handy remote control, allowing for a better experience when using Daydream. It works with the Pixel, Pixel XL and other devices that support Daydream (like the Moto Z, Moto Z Force, Huawei Mate 9 Pro and more). If your Google Pixel order was delayed, and you ordered from Verizon, you’ll likely be getting a call from (844) 340-4325 fairly soon offering you a Daydream View headset.
