Verizon’s Total Mobile Protection device insurance plans have always been a fairly good deal, and Verizon just sweetened the pot by adding in cracked screen repair, upping the amount of available claims per year, and tweaking multi-device Total Mobile Protection plans. Customers in certain markets of 34 states, as well as in DC, are eligible for same-day cracked screen repair for $79. A single-device plan normally includes two claims per year, but Verizon has cranked that number up to three going forward. Replacement devices can be delivered the next day for certain devices in certain markets. Finally, multi-device plans not only have nine claims instead of six, but also offers users a free Mophie powerBOOST Mini with enrollment in the Tech Coach program during an enrollment period for all customers from now until March 10th.
There are a few caveats with the new tweaks to Total Mobile Protection plans. For starters, getting a screen repaired eats up one of your claims, meaning that a customer who cracks their phone twice then loses it will be out of luck if something else happens to it within that year. The phones that can be repaired are limited to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and 5, Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, and Galaxy S7, notably excluding the harder-to-repair Edge variants, the Motorola DROID Turbo and DROID Maxx, and the iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, and the Plus variants of the 6 and 6S models. Popular phones like the iPhone 7, Google Pixel, and Moto Z are missing from the lineup, but Verizon’s press release does note that the list may be subject to change from time to time.
Despite the fairly nice additions to the plan, the price for a Total Mobile Protection plan remains the same. A single device plan will cost $9 per month, while a multi-device plan will cost $33 per month for anywhere from three to ten devices. Signing up during the enrollment period until March 10 and throwing in a Tech Coach enrollment will net users the free Mophie powerBOOST Mini as noted above, but the changes to the plan are permanent for all users going forward, including existing Total Mobile Protection plan holders.
