LG is back with the LG G6, their lead 2017 flagship that’s ready to make waves the moment it hits store shelves. Last year we saw LG put out the modular LG G5, and while the phone was really cool and had plenty of positive points, it didn’t attract customers in the numbers LG was looking for. This year they’re changing things up yet again, starting with an all glass build and metal frame on the LG G6, a build that’s also IP68 water and dust resistant. This marks the first flagship phone LG has debuted with water and dust resistance, and spells a new route for the popular South Korean manufacturer.
Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, which isn’t quite the latest from the house of Qualcomm, but is still in line with flagships that just launched back in November. You’ll find 4GB of RAM inside as, well as 32GB of internal storage with microSD card support in the US, and international customers will be able to buy a 64GB internal storage version as well. A non-removable 3,300mAh battery is inside, which takes away a main feature from the past G-series phones, but it’s not inside that matters quite so much with the G6, it’s what’s on the front. Sporting a 5.7-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, this ultra long screen can fit much more on it than your average 16:9 screen phone, and as a result it takes up over 80% of the front of the phone, creating a look that’s more in line with nearly bezel-less phones like the Xiaomi Mi MIX.
The IPS Quantum Dot screen also supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10 technologies, meaning you’ll be getting some amazing visual quality when watching supported content on Amazon or Netflix. Plenty of visual aspects of the display have been modified to fit this new aspect ratio too, including a scrolling photo gallery in the camera app, and caller ID and other controls in the phone app for instance. LG isn’t stopping there, though, it has improved the cameras on the back to newer 13-megapixel sensors, and is still including the 70-degree angle lens as well as the 125-degree ultra-wide-angle lens as well.
