Alleged Galaxy S8 Plus 3,500mAh Battery Leaks Online

An image depicting what’s said to be the battery powering the upcoming Galaxy S8 Plus surfaced online on Monday. The picture indicates that the battery powering the larger variant of the Galaxy S8 will be a 3,500mAh one, which seemingly confirms some rumors on the matter that started circulating the industry last month. The image also shows that the battery in question was manufactured by Samsung SDI’s Vietnam facility and is intended to be powering a handset made in South Korea. The Galaxy S8 isn’t mentioned by name, though the form of the battery and the timing of this leak certainly suggest that the battery depicted in the image above was likely made to fuel Samsung’s upcoming Android flagship.

Recent reports already suggested that the Galaxy S8 Plus will be powered by a 3,500mAh battery. While that may not seem like a lot seeing how the upcoming smartphone is said to feature a 6.2-inch display and the 5.5-inch Galaxy S7 Edge was powered by a 3,600mAh battery, it’s worth noting that the Galaxy S8 Plus will likely be more power efficient than its predecessor. Both the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus are expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 and the Exynos 8895 system-on-chip (SoC) in certain territories and unlike the Snapdragon 821 and the Exynos 8890, the next generation of flagship mobile SoCs is manufactured using the 10nm process. In other words, the chipsets powering the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will be significantly more power efficient so both devices should boast a battery life that’s at least comparable to that of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge.

Regarding other specifications, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus are said to feature 4GB of RAM and at least 64GB of internal storage, IP68 certification, and Bixby, Samsung’s new artificial intelligence (AI) assistant. The South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer previously confirmed it will unveil its next-generation Android flagship on March 29 at a special event in New York City. According to recent reports, both the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will hit the market next month, so more information on the handsets is bound to follow soon.
