The Android Wear 2.0 update is hitting the Fossil Q Founder, TAG Heuer Connected, and the Casio Smart Outdoor Watch, one of Google’s employees revealed on the company’s official help pages on Tuesday evening. The upgrade to the latest major iteration of Google’s wearable operating system (OS) is being distributed as an over-the-air (OTA) update, the official said, noting how not everyone will be immediately able to download it. Regardless, the staged rollout is currently scheduled to be completed on April 4, so all owners of the Fossil Q Founder, Casio Smart Outdoor Watch, and the TAG Heuer Connected should be running Android Wear 2.0 by Tuesday. With that said, seeing how the update already started rolling out yesterday, users of the aforementioned devices might want to try searching for it manually if they aren’t keen on waiting for the push notification to arrive and prompts them to download the package.
This latest turn of events marks the first rollout of Android Wear 2.0 to devices that launched with Android Wear 1.0 since Google officially announced the new major build of its wearable OS in early February. Other than some newer devices, Android Wear 2.0 already debuted on the LG Watch Style and the LG Watch Sport, both of which were running this build of Google’s OS out of the box. Curiously enough, the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition and the Huawei Watch have been running developer previews of the new Android Wear build since last year but are yet to receive a stable version of the OS. While the reasoning behind the order in which devices are receiving the update still isn’t clear since Google and watchmakers are collaborating on each individual build, most compatible devices should receive their upgrade to Android Wear 2.0 by mid-2017. With that said, not every watch that launched with Android Wear 1.0 will be updated to the latest version of the OS, Google previously confirmed.
Following this initial rollout of Android Wear 2.0 on older devices, more smartwatches are expected to receive the update in the coming weeks. There’s still no word on which wearables will be the next in line for the upgrade after the aforementioned trio, but more information is bound to follow shortly.
