A Beta Version Of Samsung Internet Hits The Play Store

A beta version of Samsung Internet has hit the Play Store recently and is now available for Samsung device users to get their hands on. While the stable version of Samsung Internet has already been available for download via the Play Store for a while, the beta version will give users early access to new and upcoming features that will eventually make their way into the stable version of the app at some point in the future after the features are tested by users. Samsung also notes that the app is available to Google Nexus devices as well as long as they’re also running on at least Android 5.0 Lollipop or above, which all supported Nexus devices should be well-past at this point.

Samsung doesn’t make note of any specifics in regards to which features this will allow users to get early access to, but there are new features to look out for if you’re choosing to use this browser. This includes support for the payment request API as well as a QR code reader. The latter may not be something that all people use on a constant basis but it is probably a useful thing to have in the event that you do want to scan a QR code when you’re already browsing the web, which means you won’t have to close out of the browser just to complete the scan.

Other new features which aren’t available in the stable version of the app yet include an indicator for progressive web apps and physical web support. Some of or all of these may seem insignificant to a number of users, but one that is definitely going to be useful for anyone on a Galaxy device that uses Samsung Pay is the payment request API support as this will open up the capability to pay for things online with Samsung Pay as the payment method. A few other things have also been included in this beta version, like Amazon Shopping assistant and video assistant, as well as support for the DuckDuckGo search engine and 360 video support.
