You can now watch VR gaming YouTube videos on Daydream using your Daydream View headset and the available YouTube VR app that you can grab from the Play Store. It’s also possible to watch these new videos on Cardboard if you don’t have a Daydream View and want a cheaper way to get into VR, or if you simply already have a Cardboard headset. While YouTube is still working to get more 360-degree and VR gaming content onto its platform and available for viewing, they have already been experimenting with this sort of content in partnership with publishers and creators to begin growing this category of offerings.
There is already a decent selection of videos for you to comb through if you’re interested in checking things out, but if you don’t want to search for everything that’s available you can simply view them all in a playlist, and YouTube has created that playlist and made it available on the Virtual Reality channel so you won’t have to dig around. If you don’t want to watch the playlist (or any of the videos included in it) via a headset, you can open it up on your computer or smartphone and watch the content that way too, just like any other 360-degree content that’s already available on YouTube, and to pan the camera around all you have to do is click and drag or turn the phone around, though it’s likely much more enjoyable with a headset as it will feel more immersive.
The playlist that YouTube created is called “Step Into The Games” and it so far contains 80 total videos for users to enjoy, though it’s possible that YouTube could continue adding to the playlist as more VR gaming videos are uploaded to YouTube. There’s all sorts of videos that cater to fans of different games. For example, if you’re a fan of League of Legends you can view the Rift Walk in 360-degrees to experience what it’s like to cruise the walk yourself. Alternatively, if you’re a Call of Duty fan there’s content in this franchise as well. There’s even a 360-degree tour of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The playlist is a nice little collective of different kinds of games and it makes it possible to feel like you’re experiencing some of those games as if they were actual VR titles.
