Image testing company DxOMark just published the results of its Huawei P10 DxOMark Mobile test and awarded Huawei’s latest flagship an impressive score of 87, putting it just behind the Google Pixel that scored 89, as well as the Galaxy S7 Edge and the HTC 10 that scored 88 on the same test.
DxOMark’s experts were impressed with Leica’s dual camera setup featured on the Huawei P10 as they’ve concluded that the phone is extremely capable of capturing adequately exposed images even in poor lighting conditions. While testing the imaging capabilities of Huawei’s new smartphone in low-light scenarios, the company also concluded that the handset is able to deliver accurate white balance and color rendering, as well as preserve textures in a highly efficient manner. Furthermore, the testing firm claims that the Huawei P10 has an accurate autofocusing system that’s both reliable and repeatable and praised the flash exposures of the device that preserved details and delivered a realistic white balance. However, the dual camera setup of the Huawei P10 still isn’t perfect, as DxOMark notes that there’s a significant amount of luminance noise that can be seen in photos of the sky that were captured with the phone, adding that some shots made in low-light conditions also display a degree of color shading. Finally, the camera struggles with outdoor shots with a high dynamic range as it cannot efficiently preserve details in darker parts of such photos.
Regarding the video-recording capabilities of the Huawei P10, DxOMark was impressed with the target exposure and dynamic range that the device was able to deliver in general, and the same goes for its detail preservation and white balance accuracy. The autofocusing system of the Huawei P10 is just as reliable when shooting videos as it is when taking pictures and allows for some extremely smooth transitions. Finally, the phone boasts impressive motion stabilization that prevents your recordings from looking shaky, the test revealed. On the downside, even though they’re relatively stable, the recordings you make with the Huawei P10 on the move are sometimes prone to suffering from the “jello” effect that makes some vertical objects look wobbly. Furthermore, the color shading visible in photos taken with the device is even more visible in videos taken in low-light scenarios, and the same goes for luminance noise that’s basically unavoidable. Finally, DxOMark found that some consecutive video frames taken in motion aren’t equally sharp, though the issue isn’t terribly pronounced.
