Samsung’s Q1 2017 operating profit estimate has been revised, by FnGuide. The company is expected to post an operating profit of 8.7 trillion won in Q1 2017, which translates to $7.5 billion. Now, for those of you who don’t know, several analysts predicted that the company will earn 9.3 trillion won ($8.14 billion) in the first quarter of this year, such predictions surfaced two weeks ago, and it seems like opinions have changed. As things are at the moment, FnGuide expects the company to increase their operating profit for 30.6 percent compared to Q1 last year.
For those of you who don’t know, FnGuide is a market tracking company, and they’ve conducted a survey of earnings forecasts for Samsung Electronics, and that’s where they got those numbers we’ve mentioned in the previous paragraph. In addition to all this, such numbers suggest that the company’s year-over-year earning for the January – March period could fall 0.3 percent. Samsung is expected to post strong results in the semiconductor department, as their semiconductor division is expected to surpass 5 trillion won ($4.3 billion) operating profit for Q1 2017. Company’s mobile division is also expected to do good in Q1 2017, as they’re attempting to recover from the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. Samsung did not release a new flagship smartphone since the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, which were released a year ago, not counting the Galaxy Note 7 which is no longer available, of course.
That being said, Samsung is expected to release their official financial results soon, and then we’ll see how accurate are FnGuide’s predictions. In addition to that, Samsung will announce their new flagship smartphones on March 29, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, which have been leaking for months now. These two phones are expected to go on sale in the second half of April, which means they will affect the company’s Q2 results quite a bit, and Q3 will be significantly affected by the sales of the Galaxy S8 devices as well, for sure. It will certainly be interesting to see how well will the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus sell, we’ll see if the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco managed to affect consumers in any way, or will the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus be an overwhelming success for Samsung.
