Google Pixel Bluetooth Issue Fixed Via Play Services Update

Google has finally submitted a Bluetooth fix for their Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones which will be performed on its side via a Google Play Services update. Google’s new line of Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones are good, solid devices that received good reviews, but were not without their problems when it came to their Bluetooth connections. The most recent incident that was reported by some owners of the Google Pixel and the Google Pixel XL occurred after the February Security update was pushed out when they noticed that their Bluetooth would randomly switch off without any intervention by their owners. It appears that the Pixel/Pixel XLs were turning off Bluetooth each time the device was rebooted, so owners that turned their phones off every night were finding their Bluetooth off the next morning, when the device was once again powered on. Google has worked through this issue, and the fix should be coming out any day.

Back in October, some owners were having trouble pairing their Android 7.1-running Nexus and Pixel devices to their car, and even if they were finally able to get a connection, many times that connection would be lost without warning. What made it difficult to provide a fix, was the problem did not affect everybody. While some were able to connect to stream music, if a phone call came in, the Bluetooth would disconnect. It was first thought that it was the Android 7.1 Nougat software upgrade that caused the issue, but not all Nexus and Pixel devices seemed to be affected by their upgrade. It took Google until January to finally duplicate the issue and that send out a patch to fix the issue.

Hopefully, this latest fix will put to rest the Bluetooth issues with the Google Pixel and Pixel XL once and for all. Bluetooth is becoming ever more important as people look to cut the cable on everything, including earphones and speakers. Likewise, as more emphasis is placed on distraction-free driving, Bluetooth connections are important for talking while driving. And these are just some of the ways in which Bluetooth is becoming more commonly-used. So it will be a welcomed-relief to those affected Pixel and Pixel XL owners that a fix is now en route.
