Google Store just debuted a Country Picker feature that allows users to make purchases from any version of the company’s online marketplace. The feature is available globally and provides consumers with an option to access any currently available version of the Google Store. Note that this doesn’t mean you can get a product delivered to a country that the Google Store doesn’t support, but can instead only order products from a country that the company’s digital marketplace doesn’t support. For example, you can use the newly added Country Picker to access the U.S. version of the Google Store and order something like the Google Pixel XL, but you’ll only be able to ship it to a U.S. address.
In a short announcement posted on Google+ earlier today, the Alphabet-owned tech giant implied that this feature was mostly designed for gifting purposes and convenience. So, while this doesn’t mean you can use the Country Picker to do something like ship the Daydream View headset to Argentina from the Canadian version of Google’s digital marketplace, you can at least use it to pay for the headset and send it to someone you know in Canada who’ll then proceed to mail you the gadget. It’s not an ideal solution, but it’s better than nothing, especially since the new addition to the Google Store wasn’t designed to allow users from unsupported countries to have their orders shipped home in the first place.
As of right now, the “Google Store isn’t available here yet” message that greeted users who accessed the Google Store from an unsupported country was replaced with a “we aren’t in your country yet” message that appears on top of the new Country Picker. Likewise, all versions of the Google Store now allow you to pay for products as long as you have a local address where you want to ship them. While users were already able to access the company’s online marketplace, they weren’t able to actually order products as all prices and “Buy” buttons were grayed out.
