LG is reportedly launching a new variant of its latest flagship phone in South Korea, dubbed the LG G6 Black Edition. The model is apparently launched exclusively through South Korean carrier KT but spec-wise it will be no different than the regular LG G6. However, the LG G6 Black Edition introduces a new color scheme which may or may not become available outside the company’s homeland.
As most readers are likely aware, the regular LG G6 is available in three color options namely Ice Platinum, Mystic White, and Astro Black. Indeed the smartphone is already offered in the color black, however, unlike the Astro Black variant, the LG G6 Black Edition features a black front panel combined with a back panel painted either in Ice Platinum or Mystic White. In other words and despite its moniker, the LG G6 Black Edition is the only variant boasting a dual color scheme. Otherwise, the LG G6 Black Edition features the same hardware internals as the standard model, including a 5.7-inch FullVision IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2880 x 1440 in an 18:9 aspect ratio, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 System-on-Chip along with an Adreno 530 graphics chip and 4 GB of RAM. However, storage-wise it currently seems that the LG G6 Black Edition is available only with 64 GB, whereas the standard model carries either 32 GB or 64 GB on-board memory. In both cases, storage is expandable via microSD by up to an additional 256 GB. Other specifications worth mentioning include a dual camera setup comprising two 13-megapixel rear-facing sensor, a front-facing 5-megapixel unit, and a fingerprint recognition sensor embedded on the back panel. The device runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and the package relies on a non-removable 3,300 mAh Li-Po battery which has been subjected to rigorous testing by LG in its ‘Digital Park’ facility.
The LG G6 Black Edition is available in South Korea for the same price as the standard model along with a 24-month KT carrier agreement. To sweeten the deal further, LG Electronics also announced that it will give away 1,000 LG Watch Sport smartwatches to lucky LG G6 buyers in the country next month, regardless of which LG G6 variant they’ll pick. The standard LG G6 was launched in South Korea earlier in March and will hit the shelves in more countries including the US in early April.
