Nubia is sending out invitations for an official launch event which will take place early next month on April 6. Although the Chinese smartphone maker didn’t go into details as to what device will be showcased at the event, rumors suggest that the star of the show will be the Nubia Z17 Mini. The device was recently confirmed by TENAA to carry a dual-camera setup, and the press invites at hand strongly hint that the upcoming mysterious device will carry two sensors on the back panel.
The Nubia Z17 Mini recently passed through China’s electronics and telecommunication certification agency TENAA (or China’s equivalent of the FCC) carrying model number “NX569J”. As expected, most of the smartphone’s specifications have been confirmed by the aforementioned regulatory agency, including a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, as well as an unspecified System-on-Chip boasting eight CPU cores clocked at up to 1.8GHz. The smartphone should also feature 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board memory expandable via microSD, and carry two 13-megapixel cameras on the back panel accompanied by an LED flash. Selfie enthusiasts will likely rely on a 16-megapixel front-facing unit, and other details include a fingerprint sensor on the metal back panel, a 2,930mAh battery supporting fast charging, Bluetooth 4.1, 4G LTE connectivity, and dual SIM capabilities. According to TENAA, the smartphone runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, but since this is a Nubia smartphone, it will likely cover the operating system with a proprietary user interface.
It should be noted that although dual-camera technology is a concept newly adopted by the Chinese manufacturer, the Nubia Z17 Mini will not be the company’s first dual-camera smartphone to hit the market. That title goes to the Nubia M2 which was officially introduced last week in China along with the Nubia M2 Lite and the Nubia N2. Both the Nubia M2 and Nubia Z17 Mini seem to share many characteristics, including a generous 16-megapixel front-facing camera and two 13-megapixel sensors on the back panel. However they are not identical, hardware or design-wise, and while the Nubia M2 features a fingerprint scanner embedded within the front-facing ‘home’ button, the Nubia Z17 Mini carries its fingerprint sensor on the back panel. Keep in mind that the details above have not been officially confirmed by Nubia but they are likely to be set in stone on April 6.
