Samsung has started the mass production of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus, latest reports from South Korea indicate. The company’s manufacturing operation in Vietnam is apparently already producing large volumes of the upcoming pair of Android flagships and is expected to manufacture 4.7 million units over the course of this month. The same operation is also said to increase its production volumes come next month as it will reportedly produce 7.8 million units in April. This coincides with recent reports that Samsung is targeting approximately 10 million units for the initial batch of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones. The source of the aforementioned report didn’t know whether the South Korean tech giant is prioritizing the production of the Galaxy S8 Plus over that of its smaller counterpart, though an industry rumor from early February suggests that happens to be the case.
By most accounts, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will be significant upgrades over their predecessors as the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco reportedly prompted Samsung to make amends and go all out with its 2017 flagship duo. The two devices are only expected to differ in terms of screen size and battery capacity while the rest of their specs are said to be identical. Numerous rumors, leaks, and reports suggest that the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and the Exynos 8895 system-on-chip (SoC) in certain territories, as well as 4GB of RAM. Both phones will likely boast IP68 certification, meaning they’ll be resistant to water and dust particles. Furthermore, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus are expected to ship with Bixby, Samsung’s latest artificial intelligence (AI) assistant developed by Viv Labs, an AI startup that the Seoul-based tech giant acquired last fall.
During the latest iteration of Mobile World Congress (MWC), Samsung confirmed it will officially announce its next-generation flagship at a special event in New York City that’s scheduled for March 29. Other than that, the company also announced that the upcoming smartphone will ship with AKG-made headphones and will also be audio-tuned by the Vienna, Austria-based subsidiary of Harman, another firm that Samsung is currently in the process of acquiring.
