Rumor: Meizu Is Planning To Release A 7.9-Inch Tablet

According to a new rumor, Meizu is actually planning to release a tablet. Meizu is one of the most interesting China-based smartphone manufacturing companies, and their Android-based Flyme OS is quite different, and unique because of it. They pre-install Flyme OS on pretty much all of their devices, and that OS also came pre-installed on the JDTab tablet which was originally announced back in December last year. JDTab is not exactly Meizu’s tablet, though, this tablet was made by a couple of companies in collaboration, including Meizu, JingDong Mall (JD:com), Foxconn, Harman and LeEco.

That being said, the JDTab has been available for quite some time via JD.com, and it is the only tablet out there which is running Flyme OS out of the box. Well, it seems like Meizu is looking to change that in the near future. According to rumor, Meizu is actually planning to release a 7.9-inch tablet which would sport a QHD (2560 x 1440) display. That tablet is also going to ship with a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, if the rumored info is to be believed, and an 8-megapixel shooter will be placed on the front. Harman Kardon’s customized speaker will also be a part of this offering, same as on the JDTab, and the device is rumored to cost 1,699 Yuan ($283). Now, this tablet is expected to compete with Xiaomi’s Mi Pad 3 tablet which is also expected to launch in the near future.

That is pretty much all the info that we have on this tablet, and even though this is not the first time we’re hearing about a Meizu-branded tablet, it’s the first time some info leaked this year. Do take this information with a grain of salt, though, Meizu has been really committed to manufacturing smartphones and some other smart gadgets, but they did not really say that they’re interested in manufacturing tablets, but we’ll see, if this rumor is accurate, we’ll probably see some leaked images, or something of the sort, in the near future. All in all, stay tuned, we’ll report back if any additional info surfaces, as per usual, and as we’re waiting to hear more info about this tablet, Meizu will probably introduce their new flagship smartphone next month, though leaks have been rather quiet on that front as well, so who knows if it will happen.
