Samsung Galaxy S8 Shows Up In Short Hands-On Video

The highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S8 is set to be officially unveiled next week, March 29, but as the smartphone’s debut is coming near, more information regarding the device is emerging through unofficial channels in the form of leaks and rumors. The latest leak puts the alleged Galaxy S8 in front of the camera for a short hands-on video which originally surfaced earlier today via China’s social network Sina Weibo.

As expected, following the numerous leaked images and renders so far, the Galaxy S8 showcased in the video boasts an Edge display curved around the left and right edges of the phone, and boasts very thin bezels at the top and bottom. The corners of the display seem to have been rounded similarly to the LG G6, and the back of the device presents a glossy finish along with a camera, LED flash setup, and what appears to be a rear-fitted fingerprint sensor near the main camera module. Although this detail has yet to be officially confirmed by the South Korean tech giant, the idea of having a fingerprint scanner so close to the camera module raised some concerns from gadget enthusiasts, as it could lead to unnecessary fingerprint marks on the camera lens itself. In any case, the smartphone depicted below is shown in black, but assuming some previous leaks are correct, the Galaxy S8 should also be available in purple. Other rumors pointed to a variety of other color options, including Arctic Silver, Coral Blue, and Orchid Grey.

Spec-wise, the Galaxy S8 should be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC (System-on-Chip) in some regions and the in-house Exynos 8895 chipset in other territories. The handset should accommodate 4GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB of internal memory and will run Android 7.0 Nougat complete with the company’s proprietary user interface and the addition of Bixby. The virtual assistant Bixby was officially announced earlier this week and promises new and convenient ways to interact with the Galaxy S8 using voice commands. The smartphone is also rumored to be accompanied by a larger model called the Galaxy S8 Plus, boasting a 6.2-inch display as opposed to a 5.8-inch panel.
