Samsung is now accepting registrations for an Early Access Samsung Pay program in India, users report. The program will initially support the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy A5 (2016), Galaxy A7 (2016), Galaxy S7. and the Galaxy S7 Edge, all of which were recently updated with the Samsung Pay app. There’s still no word on when the Early Access program will actually start, but the Seoul-based tech giant did reveal that it will support cards issued by Standard Chartered, ICICI, SBI, HDFC, and Axis, while the company is also planning to extend the support to Citibank-issued cards in the near future. Due to a lot of interest, it’s possible you won’t be able to successfully register for the program on your first attempt. Furthermore, Samsung’s official website is seemingly experiencing some unrelated issues in Chrome, so if you aren’t able to register no matter what, try signing up for the Early Access Samsung Pay program from a different browser. The website still doesn’t reveal when the South Korean tech giant will start testing its mobile payments service in India, but it does promise that users will be notified via email once that happens. While the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge seemingly aren’t supported by the Early Access program, they should be supported once Samsung Pay officially rolls out in India seeing how Samsung’s mobile payments solution works on both devices in other territories where it’s already available. Naturally, the upcoming Galaxy A (2017) series will likely support Samsung Pay once it hits the market, and the same goes for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus.
Samsung recently intensified its efforts to bring Samsung Pay to India after a sudden demonetization of some popular banknotes left the majority of the country strapped for cash and led to a surge in popularity of mobile payments solutions. The Android Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge marked the official confirmation that Samsung’s service is making its way to India in the near future.
