Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus were officially announced earlier today, and among all of the features the cameras should stand out as they offer much of what has been seen in past Samsung cameras but also some new features. For example Samsung has now added the ability to add some Augmented Reality effects to your images as you take them, something which has been done with Sony phones and something that should be familiar to those who often use Snapchat filters.
Samsung is using a 12-megapixel dual pixel rear-facing camera for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, so it doesn’t have dual cameras like it was initially thought in some rumors. That being said, the cameras will still provide a quality image. Users can expect a fair amount of features in Samsung’s camera software and the app UI. The back camera also comes paired with phase detection autofocus, flash, and voice control, and will support features like HDR and optical image stabilization. Both cameras will also allow you to shoot in RAW mode if you want a little more control over your image processing after the fact. Of course these days it isn’t all about the main camera on the back of the device. We live in an age of selfies and group portraits of which the front-facing camera is used the most for. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will have an 8-megapixel front camera and both have autofocus that will enable it to identify the best focal distance for whatever it’s shooting, this way you can always be assured that you’ll get the best possible photos when using it.
Samsung is usually known for incorporating some pretty decent camera software into their phones, and with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus they have added some new tweaks that enhance the camera in a number of ways. For instance, it’s now easier than ever to adjust the exposure levels of the camera by either swiping the shutter button up or down a little bit which Samsung has denoted by short lines in each each direction. Swiping past those lines will either transition you to video recording mode or open up the different camera modes that are included. Samsung hasn’t used any new camera modes here but all of the same modes that customers are familiar with are still here so you won’t miss out on anything.
