Unlocked US Galaxy S7 & Edge Receiving March Security Update

The unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge in the US now seem to be in the process of receiving an update which brings with it the most recent security patches released earlier in March by Google. Which does mean that the two unlocked variants are now up to date in terms of the latest security patches. This is specifically for the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 (model number G930U) and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (model number G935U) and lists the update as coming in the form of software version G930UUES4AQC1 with the security patch level listed as March 1, 2017.

The arrival of the updates for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge follows on from the likes of the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017), the Galaxy Grand Prime Plus and the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016), who have all already received their March 2017 security patch updates. As well as following on from the confirmation from Samsung, which came through earlier in March and making it clear that unlocked Galaxy smartphones in the US would start to receive more regular updates. In particular, Samsung essentially committed unlocked Galaxy smartphones to receive security updates on a monthly basis, compared to the quarterly basis that had been in effect before. Therefore, it does seem that this is the first of those committed monthly updates for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in the US, to come through.

However, what may be disappointing for some owners of an unlocked Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, is that the update does not bring with it an update to Android 7.0 (Nougat). Instead, both variants still remain squarely on Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow). Which is in spite of other US carrier-affiliated Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge variants (as well as other international variants of both devices) already receiving their update to Android 7.0. Android Nougat aside though, if you do own either the Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy S7 Edge and have yet to see this latest security update arrive on your device, then the chances are good that you will see the update arrive in the coming hours, if it is not already there waiting for you.
