The upcoming Samsung Galaxy J series is expected to feature fingerprint scanning technology when it is launched later this year. South Korean news outlet ETNews, reported that Samsung may add fingerprint scanners to its Galaxy J series, so that it may expand its mobile payment solution, Samsung Pay. A source with knowledge of the plans, has mentioned that the South Korean electronics company is already in talks with fingerprint module manufacturers. If everything goes as planned, production of fingerprint sensor modules will likely begin in early May.
The fingerprint sensor modules will likely be produced by South Korean module makers, including Dreamtech, MCNEX and Patron, though Samsung has yet to decide on their final suppliers. So far, Samsung has adopted fingerprint scanning technology for their Galaxy S, Galaxy Note and Galaxy A series. If the report is to be believed, and Samsung proceeds to include fingerprint sensors on the Galaxy J lineup, then almost every Samsung smartphone will sport the extra layer of security. The 2018 version of the Galaxy J lineup is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2017, and the smartphones will likely come with support for Samsung Pay if fingerprint scanning technology is included. This will greatly expand the user base of Samsung Pay, as the Galaxy J series is one of the company’s best selling lineup. At the moment, only some smartphones from Samsung support the company’s mobile payment solution, including the Galaxy S7 series, the Galaxy Note 5, and several phones from their Galaxy A series of devices.
Samsung ships a ton of Galaxy J smartphones on a yearly basis, and the lineup has proven to be hugely popular in a number of regions, especially in South East Asia. One of Samsung’s main market for the Galaxy J series is India, and it should be noted that Samsung Pay was recently launched in the country. If the upcoming Galaxy J lineup receives support for Samsung Pay, it is likely that the user base of the mobile payment solution will see a large growth. Handsets from the Galaxy J lineup cater to consumers looking for entry-level devices, and are usually priced from $179 to $279.
