The day that everyone has been waiting for is finally here. Samsung will be unboxing the Galaxy S8 and its larger brother, the Galaxy S8 Plus in less than an hour. And as luck would have it, Samsung is going to be live-streaming the unveiling this time around, so that those that weren’t able to join in on the fun in New York City can still see everything that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus have to offer.
Samsung will be getting their event started at 11AM EDT today, that’s 8AM PDT for those on the west coast, and those that are in the UK, it’ll be getting started at 4PM BST. It shouldn’t be a long event, clocking in at around 45 minutes to an hour, which is pretty typical of Samsung’s flagship launch events. There will likely be a big spiel about how they thoroughly tested the battery and the phone in general this time around, especially after the issues that Samsung had with the Galaxy Note 7. As they are looking to move past that, but also gain their customers trust back with this new device.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus have both leaked out quite a bit already, ahead of the event, and there likely isn’t much – in terms of surprises – that will be announced today. Based on the leaks, it appears that Samsung is going with an 18:9 aspect ratio display here, similar to what LG did with their G6. Making the display much larger, but keeping the same footprint. The Galaxy S8 is rumored to sport a 5.8-inch display, with the Galaxy S8 Plus having a 6.3-inch display in tow. Both will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 (with a slim chance of an Exynos chip for international markets, although there haven’t been many rumors regarding that) along with 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of storage. Of course, the two smartphones will likely be available from all four of the major carriers plus US Cellular, here in the US. And it’ll likely be available beginning in early April, again according to the rumor mill.
