Sprint today announced the availability of the new ZTE MAX XL with its prepaid brand Boost Mobile. For the past few years, Chinese company ZTE has been successfully attempting to crack though the US market by offering mostly value smartphones with decent specs and attractive price-tags.
The new ZTE MAX XL arrives to replace last year’s ZTE ZMAX Pro – a handset which gave the Moto G4 Plus a run for its money. The new MAX XL remains in the budget sphere and arrives boasting a large 6-inch display with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). Like the Xiaomi Redmi 4X, the new ZTE MAX XL takes advantage of an octa-core Snapdragon 435 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz which works in concert with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. ZTE also makes available a microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 128GB. When it comes to photography, ZTE MAX XL buyers should be able to get decent results thanks to the 13-megapixel main camera and 5-megapixel selfie snapper onboard. The good news is that the phone runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, so users won’t have to hope and pray for updates in the near future. According to Boost Mobile, the 3,990 mAh battery onboard should last up to 26.6 hours on a single charge. The carrier also reveals the ZTE MAX XL has a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 4.0, a fingerprint scanner, GPS and that it’s High Performance User Equipment (HPUE) Capable – hence it can deliver better coverage and faster data speeds.
In case you’re interested, the handset will be offered with a 2GB plan from Boost Mobile which also bundles unlimited talk and text for $30 with auto-renew and $35 without. The phone can also be acquired on the carrier’s Unlimited Gigs plan with unlimited talk, text and data starting at $50. The third option is to pick up the phone for $129.99 outright. For a limited time customers purchasing the phone online will be able to grab it at the promotional price of $101.99. The ZTE MAX XL is not the only handset launched by the Chinese companies in the US today. The new ZTE Blade Max 3 – an affordable dual-camera phone with a dedicated DAC – was also announced for US Cellular. The $199 product comes with a similar 6-inch display with 1920 x 1080 resolution, but takes advantage of an improved Snapdragon 625 processor. Weirdly enough it ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
