Android 7.1.1 Rolling Out To Xperia XZ, Xperia X Performance

Android 7.1.1 Nougat is now rolling out to the Sony Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance smartphones. These two handsets are no longer Sony’s flagships, but they have started receiving Android 7.1.1 Nougat, Xperia Blog reports. After the update, both devices will sport 41.2.A.2.199 build numbers, and this update brings a number of stock Android 7.1 Nougat features to two of Sony’s smartphones, read on.

As part of this update, the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance users are expected to get app shortcuts, though the Xperia Home launcher does not support them at the moment, so it remains to be seen if an update is coming to Sony’s Android launcher or not. In addition to that, Android security patch for April will also be installed on the two devices along with this update, and those are always good news. That being said, we do not have any specifics at the moment, but basically every new feature that was introduced with the Android 7.1.1 Nougat should be included on the two Xperia devices, but we’ll have to wait for more info in order to be sure, as the source did not really release any other specific than the ones we’ve already mentioned. Sony is actually really fast when it comes to smartphone updates lately, the company has been amongst the first to push Android 7.0 Nougat to a number of their devices, and the same goes for Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

The Sony Xperia X Performance was announced back in February 2016, while the Xperia XZ landed in September last year. These two devices are both compelling offerings, even though the Xperia XZ is slightly more powerful of the two, while the Xperia X Performance is a more compact smartphone. The Xperia XZ sports a 5.2-inch fullHD display and it is fueled by the Snapdragon 820, while the Xperia X Performance comes with a 5-inch fullHD panel, and it also features the Snapdragon 820 SoC. A rather capable 23-megapixel shooter can be found on the back of both of these phones, and both of them offer a rather interesting design that is characteristic to Sony, which you’ll either love or hate. Do keep in mind that the OTA update is coming to unlocked Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance models, so stay tuned.
