While Google WiFi was announced last fall, along with the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, and Google Home at their hardware event. Google WiFi didn’t make its way to Canada, until now. According to Google’s Blog for Canada, Google WiFi is available as of today in the country and is selling for $179 for a single Google WiFi, or you can get a three-pack for $439. Of course, this is in Canadian Dollars and not US Dollars, which is why the pricing is a bit higher than what those in the US are paying.
Google WiFi is a pretty interesting router from Google. It’s built on the same platform as OnHub, but it has been improved. With Google WiFi, you can easily take control of your WiFi network and even grant Guest access to your network for a specific amount of time using the app that is available on your smartphone. So no longer do you need to remember the address to login to your routers’ back-end to change things. Google WiFi is a mesh network, so you can pick up more than one to extend the signal of your network around your home or office. For most apartments, condos and small homes, one Google WiFi will be more than enough, but for larger homes, you may want to pick up the three-pack, so there aren’t any dead spots in your home. Google WiFi also keeps your network secure from those looking to hack in and get your information and from the freeloaders out there that don’t want to pay for their own WiFi.
According to Google’s blog post today, Google WiFi is available at the Google Store, Best Buy, Staples and Walmart in Canada, as of today. So you can head into your local Best Buy, Staples or Walmart and pick up Google WiFi today, or simply wait for it to be shipped from the Google Store. It’ll likely sell out pretty quickly, as it has in other regions, so if you are interested in picking one up, you may want to do so as soon as possible, or you’ll be waiting for quite a while.
