According to a new rumor that just surfaced on Weibo (China’s social network), the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 flagship phablet could launch earlier than expected, in the third quarter this year. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 was announced back in October (Q4) last year, along with the Xiaomi Mi MIX, and earlier rumors suggested that the Mi Note 3 will land in Q4 2017, but if the source is to be believed, it will be announced in Q3. That’s not all though, the source also claimed that the Mi Note 3 will sport an OLED display, just like its predecessor.
For those of you who do not know, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 ships with a fullHD curved AMOLED display. That being said, some rumors claimed that Xiaomi had issues getting enough AMOLED panels for the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, not only because these are AMOLED displays we’re talking about, but also because this is a curved display we’re talking about. Now, if Xiaomi plans to use such a display on the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 as well, that probably means they’ve resolved all supply issues for such panels, which are great news. It is still unknown whether the company plans to utilize fullHD (1920 x 1080) or QHD (2560 x 1440) AMOLED panels on the Xiaomi Mi Note 3, though, who knows, maybe they even opt for a completely different resolution with a different aspect ratio, like we’ve seen on the LG G6 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
It is also worth mentioning that Xiaomi introduced their new flagship smartphone for 2017 two days ago, the Xiaomi Mi 6. This handset does not sport an AMOLED display, it comes with an IPS LCD panel, just like the Xiaomi Mi 5. Despite that, however, the Xiaomi MI 6 is a really powerful smartphone which sports the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core processor, 6GB of RAM and a really capable set of two 12-megapixel cameras on the back. The Xiaomi Mi Note 3 will probably be an even more powerful smartphone, though not by much, as it will probably ship with the same SoC, same RAM count, etc. That is more or less it, for now, though chances are we’ll see plenty of rumors and leaks in the following weeks / months.
