Samsung just announced three new functional, activity-focused watchfaces for it latest Gear S3 smartwatch. And to better show off their functions, the Korean tech giant has partnered up with three daredevils who possess the same adventurous spirit that inspired the creators of the Gear S3, for a series of videos.
The first watchface dubbed Samsung Outdoor was designed with active individuals in mind who enjoy to go for long walks or backpacking into the wilderness. The watchface displays an altimeter at three o’clock and barometer at nine. Anticipating scenarios where adventure seekers might get lost while on a hike, the Samsung Outdoor also has a date/weather widget, a sunrise/sunset indicator and night mode. Samsung wants Gear S3 owners to be safe while enjoying outdoors activities, so the Outdoor watchface allows them to pre-set altitude and atmospheric parameters. If the smartwatch starts flashing red, it means the safety threshold has been exceeded. Samsung has chosen popular British explorer and adventurer Bear Grylls to be the ambassador for the Samsung Outdoor and you can watch him show off some of its main features in the video below. Through another video featuring famed Russian photographer Murad Osman and his wife Natalia, whose “Follow Me To” photo series went viral on Instagram a few years back, Samsung introduces the new Travel Watchface – which has been created with the frequent traveler in mind. In order to serve this purpose, the watchface displays the time/temperature back home and in the country users are currently traveling in. There’s also a currency widget and the My Journey indicator can display the distance traveled so far, as well as bring up a detailed city map.
The last series of videos shows iconic biker, Robbie Maddison using the Gear S3 with the Samsung Sports watchface to do his training and stunts. The Sports Edition offers direct access to a spotwatch and speedometer, while also displaying information related to the user’s heart rate and amount of calories consumed. A modified My Journey indicator allows users to set up their running or riding routes. Like in the case of the Active Edition, Gear S3 can pre-set activity limits to make sure they don’t over-train. Users can interact with the watchfaces by tapping once to open a certain function or twice to bring up settings. All three are currently available for download in different color options from the Gear App Store.
