With smartphones as advanced as the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, there are many options that most users never find because of the shear magnitude of trying to locate where they are hidden in the software. Fortunately, the new Samsung Experience makes it easier to locate options and the new video (shown below) called ‘Tutorial – Overview’ gives us a brief look into how workings of the new Galaxy S8 devices as well as how to do a few of the most basic, yet interesting features found on Samsung’s new flagships.
The video begins by talking about the design of the new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. It starts with the Infinity Display and its Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Then it shows us its bezel-less design and curved sides, which offer a great grip on the device, with comfort to hold it for long periods. It then shows us what we get with our new purchase besides the Quick Start Guide. There is a Travel Adaptor, Data Cable, Earphones by AKG, a USB Type-C Connector, a MicroUSB Connector, and finally the SIM ejector tool.
Switching over to the devices themselves, Samsung shows us the larger active display areas, which are 5.8-inches for the Galaxy S8 and 6.2-inches for the Galaxy S8 Plus. Next, we are shown the Volume key on the top left of the device and a dedicated Bixby key directly below. The volume key is by itself on the right of the device. The physical home button was removed, and the new Galaxy S8s have an on-screen set of ‘buttons’ – the Recents button, Home button, and the Back button – that also show up with a single swipe upward from the bottom of the display. On the front, top of the device, there are two Iris Sensors and a Front-Facing Camera. On the back, there is a Flash/HRM, a center Camera, and to the right of the camera is the fingerprint scanner. On the bottom on the device is the USB Type-C port for charging the device and for data transfer.
There is Edge lighting that is activated by notifications to give you a visual warning on the Always-on display. You can double tap on parts of the notifications to go directly into certain apps. The video shows you how to customize your Navigation Bar Settings and finally shows you how to use the Immersive Mode on you Infinity display. This allows you to eliminate everything on the display except the video or movie you are watching – much like a full-screen mode that shows you a picture the full 5.8-inches or 6.2-inches the Infinity Display can handle.
