T-Mobile’s ‘product guy’, Des Smith, has announced via Twitter that the carrier is all set to roll out Android Nougat to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus on its network next week. According a tweet sent out by him yesterday, the Android Nougat build for the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has already been approved by T-Mobile engineers, so users should start receiving the update on their handsets fairly soon. It is worth noting here that the standard Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge on Magenta are yet to receive Android Nougat, and according to Mr. Smith, the carrier is currently working on bringing the latest full-release version of Android to those devices as well.
Android Nougat might only be an incremental upgrade over Android Marshmallow, but it does come with some nice features and refinements that are expected to improve upon the overall Android experience, making it a really nice update to have on smartphones and tablets. Some of Android Nougat’s most noteworthy improvements over Marshmallow include bundled notifications, the ability to reply to messages from the notification shade, a new multitasking shortcut to switch between two recently-used apps, an all-new native split-screen mode and the ability to drag-and-drop text between two windows when in multi-window mode. There’s also a new installer animation, a native blue-light filter, a ‘Data Saver’ option and an improved ‘Doze’ mode to prolong battery life.
The features listed above, although not exhaustive, are exactly what makes Nougat so desirable to Android aficionados. As for T-Mobile’s upcoming Galaxy S6 Edge Plus update, it will be interesting to see when the carrier gets around to rolling out the update to the two other Galaxy S6 devices on its network, but it did recently roll out Android Nougat to the Galaxy Note 5, making it the last major U.S. carrier to do so after Verizon, AT&T and Sprint had already done that earlier this month. In fact the last two have also rolled out the update to the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, although Verizon is yet to do so. Big Red, however, has rolled out Android 7.0 to its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, so it will be interesting to see how long it takes for T-Mo to roll out the update to those two devices.
