This VR Headset Costs $29.99 & Fits In Your Pocket

If you are looking for a new take on virtual reality (VR) hardware, then the 2VR headset from Stimuli VR might just be the answer. This VR solution has recently become available following the completion of an Indiegogo campaign and can be purchased online for $29.99 per headset, or $49.99 for two sets.

So what is different about this VR option? Well, pretty much everything, as in the most basic of terms, 2VR is just a pair of glasses. Granted, a pair of glasses that do come equipped with 34 mm lenses and an increased field-of-view. As well as two small hook grips which are clearly the driving force here. As these hooks allow for a smartphone to be held in place and essentially complete the VR experience. Of course, while it might seem this is not the most immersive of VR experiences (due to its rather wide open design), 2VR does come with a “blackout cloth“ which can be placed around the glasses and smartphone, closing out the rest of the real word and resulting in a more traditional VR experience.

So while this seems like a strange take on VR, it is clear that Stimuli VR is looking to capitalize on what seems to be a lack of viable everyday VR options. For instance, while there are a number of very good and high-spec headsets out there, they are ones that require you to be tethered to a PC, and by association, the home. Likewise, while there are more affordable and portable (but less capable) options available, they do tend to still be fairly bulky units and although portable, not the most probable. 2VR looks to answer all of these questions as this headset can be folded right down and carried with you, wherever you go, just like a pair of traditional glasses. In fact, the marketing approach taken by Stimuli VR clearly plays on its portable nature, noting that 2VR allows you to “escape the black box” and offering consumers a “virtual world in your pocket.” In terms of compatibility, 2VR is said to work with any smartphone that measures between 4 and 6-inches, and as long as that smartphone’s depth is more than 6 mm and does not exceed 9mm.
